The rumors are true: I’m leaving Cincinnati at the end of the month.

I had plans to write a thoughtful blog post about it all, and will likely do so in the coming days or weeks, but the honest truth is that I’m simply not happy. I haven’t been happy with my life path for a few years now — even before I called the Queen City home.

Recently, I made the difficult decision to take a few steps back in order to reevaluate my life and find the bubbly, positive, outgoing Natalie you (and I) used to know.

So, I’ve decided to go on an adventure and purge my life of things that I no longer need or care for any longer. I’m seeking simplicity. I’m seeking clarity. I’m finally going to follow my own dreams; not his, or hers, or theirs or yours.

It’s time.

I will be staying in Columbus for a little while. From there, I will be heading out of the country for a change of pace and to breathe new life into my lungs, and eyes, and ears and mind.

If you have questions, feel free to reach out. But just know this isn’t a final goodbye. And it’s not Cincinnati’s fault. It’s my own for not following my heart. And it’s time to find my happy. Whatever that may be.

I love you all — and Cincinnati — so much.

“Ch-ch-changes..”

This update is long overdue, my friends.

As you may have heard, a big change is on the horizon in terms of my career and life path. The last month and a half has been difficult (to say the least). For weeks, I was completely devastated because my life and plans had practically changed overnight in a very significant way. However, after all the tears, frustration, and a bit of anger, I can now tell you how optimistic and enthusiastic I am about the future.

The universe works in mysterious ways, and I firmly believe everything happens for a reason.

That being said, I am embarking on a new adventure soon. A fresh start, if you will. On April 16th, I will be saying so long to Columbus and hello to Cincinnati! My job is located in the Cincinnati area and my old guitarist/friend from a previous music project lives there as well. So, I will be busy “down south” as I work to further my career and make sweet, sweet music for you to enjoy.

I lost myself over the last few years and am taking this opportunity to really focus on my dreams - not everyone else’s. And, just to clarify, it was my own fault that I let my passions and aspirations fall to the wayside.

Now, this doesn’t mean goodbye forever. I will be back in Columbus to visit with friends and family often. I love this city - and its people! I can’t thank all of you enough (especially the Cbusr and Twitter crowd) for enriching my life and coming to my aid when I truly needed it most. It completely boggles my mind and humbles me that even complete strangers reached out to offer their support, resources, connections, and love through the years. I am truly grateful for each and every one of you!

My Grandpa Jenkins is one of the biggest reasons as to why I’m following my musical dreams this year. He always wanted to see me “make it” it in the music industry and record an album. Aside from my parents, he was always my biggest fan. Three years ago, he actually showed up to a show of mine at a crowded bar filled with 20-somethings. But, that’s just the kind of guy he was. (Oh how I miss him.)

Less than a week before he died (just before Christmas a few weeks ago), my grandpa asked me to sing a song at his memorial service. The song in this video tribute (big thanks to my brother for creating this slide show) is the song I decided to sing because this is the way my grandpa viewed the world throughout his life - right up until the day he left us.

I love you grandpa. This year, I’m going to make you so, so proud.

Here’s to a wonderful man who gave so many people love, loyalty, and laughter until the very end.

New Year, Not-So-New Goals

I’m starting my 2011 goals early this year. Longer post to come, but 2011 will be the year I get back to my old goals and true passions. Here’s what I am setting out to accomplish:

- Write the album I’ve always wanted to write and record it by the end of the year.

- Sleep 8 hours every night.

- Stop overextending myself when it comes to taking on projects and planning events (no matter how cool or fun they sound).

- Schedule more time to hang out with friends, old and new.

- Spend more time with family.

- Become a certified Les Mills Body Balance instructor.

I just felt the need to jot that down before I forget.

As my loyal followers know, I am usually the one telling others to live their true passions. Not only do I tell them, but my actions show them that dreams can be achieved with hard work, dedication, and a positive attitude. Up until recently, I thought I was pursuing what I ultimately wanted. But in reality, in the midst of my hard work and dedication to Egolabel and various side projects over the last year, I actually lost sight of what my passions really are. I know that I love working for myself and being an entrepreneur. I also know that I love to write web content and have a knack for marketing. But did you know that my enthusiasm for helping others and promoting healthy living far outweigh my love for technology? Perhaps. But you probably don’t know that I have been singing since I was a young child and have a strong passion for writing songs as well as performing them for others. And so, my friends, I want to change that. I am on a mission to show you what true passion really looks like.

Over the last week, you may have noticed that I haven’t been updating Twitter or Facebook as much as I used to - and this is no accident. I have taken a welcome step away in order to take a breath and relax. I have also been contemplating my career path as well as my purpose in this life.

And so, I am back on the market, hoping to find a job in the health/wellness/fitness field that I can lend my writing, marketing, and other creative talents to. I am also working toward obtaining my yoga certification and some sort of group fitness certification. If I can find a job I truly have a passion for, working a 9-5 would not be so horrible now would it? Or, even if I worked as a bartender, server, or barista at a coffee shop, I would be happy in knowing that I would have time to work toward my health, fitness, and music goals.

Living the life of an entrepreneur is not an easy task. Working for yourself, especially in the beginning, takes more time out of your life than one may think. Weekends are no longer free. Evenings can no longer be used to just simply relax with a bottle of wine and good friends. That being said, if you decide you’ve got what it takes to be a small business owner, make sure you begin your journey for the right reasons and are passionate about the business you are building. For, if you don’t have a true passion for something, you will get burnt out, just as I did.

Here’s hoping I can go into business for myself one day. But for now, I’m going to be happy as long as I am following my dreams.

Though I am embarking on a new journey, I will still be taking part in select Egolabel projects and working part-time hours in order to serve our current, ongoing clients. Egolabel is not going away. This company is experiencing growth and will be around for years to come. I just happen to be one small part of a great, truly passionate team over there.

Let’s retire the term entrepreneur. It’s outdated and loaded with baggage. It smells like a members-only club. Everyone should be encouraged to start his own business, not just some rare breed that self-identifies as entrepreneurs.

There’s a new group of people out there starting businesses. They’re turning profits yet never think of themselves as entrepreneurs. A lot of them don’t even think of themselves as business owners. They are just doing what they love on their own terms and getting paid for it.

So let’s replace the fancy-sounding word with something a bit more down-to-earth. Instead of entrepreneurs, let’s just call them starters. Anyone who creates a new business is a starter. You don’t need an MBA, a certificate, a fancy suit, a briefcase, or an above-average tolerance for risk. You just need an idea, a touch of confidence, and a push to get started. “

First things first, you probably want to know what the tickets are for and about the group giving them away, right?

Well, here ya go..

SNAP! Performance Productions is a seriously cool, all-volunteer group of singers, dancers and performers who come together each year to use their talents to raise money and awareness for other Columbus area charities. This year, SNAP!’s beneficiary charity is Recreation Unlimited. This charity provides sport, recreational and educational programs to individuals with physical disabilities. A portion of the shows’ proceeds will go directly to Recreation Unlimited. AWESOME.

Hugh Versus the Black & White is an original SNAP! performance that was created entirely by the cast. The storyline, song selection, vocal arrangements, choreography, set, staging, narration, and lighting design were all created over the course of 7 months. This show tells the story of a beautiful young woman separated from her true love and her quest to bring him back into her life. Unlike a musical, our story is told entirely through song - singers, dancers, or both. While there is a narrator that helps push the plot along, none of the lead characters have speaking parts. The numbers this year range from rock songs (“Renegade” by Styx) to blues (“Home” by Marc Broussard) to pop (“Two is Better Than One” featuring Taylor Swift) to jazz (“El Tango de Roxanne” from Moulin Rouge).

Well, you can try snagging a pair of FREE tickets to a performance of SNAP!’s Hugh Versus the Black & White by following these instructions:

i like this quote. it makes me think about how we approach both what’s outside and what’s inside (us)…

we spend our days gathering and synthesizing information, making sense of external data. but think about this: how often do you look in? how much time do you spend understanding you and your creative urges?
